March 10th, 2008 by admin | No Comments »Title: AN ACT TO PROHIBIT CERTAIN FOOD ESTABLISHMENTS FROM SERVING FOOD TO ANY PERSON WHO IS OBESE, BASED ON CRITERIA PRESCRIBED BY THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH; TO DIRECT THE DEPARTMENT TO PREPARE WRITTEN MATERIALS THAT DESCRIBE AND EXPLAIN THE CRITERIA FOR DETERMINING WHETHER A PERSON IS OBESE AND TO PROVIDE THOSE MATERIALS TO THE FOOD ESTABLISHMENTS; TO DIRECT THE DEPARTMENT TO MONITOR THE FOOD ESTABLISHMENTS FOR COMPLIANCE WITH THE PROVISIONS OF THIS ACT; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

Things I agree with, are bolded.
Abortion
1. Respect the rulings of Roe vs. Wade, but make adoptions to the ruling possible
2. The right to choice must constitutionally be safeguarded.
3. Late term abortions should be legal only when the mother’s life or health is at risk.
4. Support for parental notice of teen pregnancy and family planning programs.
5. Supports expansion of embryonic stem cell research.
6. Believes in reaching out to teens in order to reduce teen pregnancy through funding of sexual education and providing contraceptives.
7. In summation, abortion should be kept legal, safe and rare.
Budget & Economy
1. Protection of the next generation through paying off the United States debt.
2. Reduction of outsourcing-bring more jobs back home.
3. Reduction of taxes within a balanced budget.
4. No history of support for reduction of federal spending.
Civil Rights
1. Supports rights being provided to gays in domestic partnerships.
2. Military service should be based on conduct, not sexual orientation. (Pro-Gay rights)
3. Reduction of prostitution is a major concern.
4. Emphasis on women’s rights being interchangeable with human rights.
5. An apology for slavery is due, but there should be more focus on changes to civil rights in the present.
Crime
1. Supports the “Three Strikes” rule and the construction of more prisons.
2. Supports increased funding and stricter sentences for hate crimes.
3. Supports requiring DNA testing for federal executions.
Today I had my first Clinical in a hospital. I really didn’t know what to expect, and figured that I’d have to take everything in stride. We started at about 8:30 and after we got oriented, we started to walk around ER. The first patient we saw was a woman who had tripped over her own feet and was complaining of pain and that she was unconscious for about 30 minutes. The instructor told me to apply the BP cuff, pulse oximeter, and the 3 leads for the monitoring station. One of the stations had to be applied on the patients left thigh. When I say that I didn’t want to go down this woman’s pants, I mean that a small part of my libido died when I entered the waste band of those velvet pantaloons. This woman smelled bad.. Real bad.. The instructor wanted to have us get a full patient history from her, but i could see that his eyes were tearing up and he called us out of the room. The nurse came running over..
Cardiac arrest en route.
We went to the room that they were preparing for the incoming cardiac patient. The cardiac doctor was preparing to receive and the nurses were getting the intubation and defib ready and primed. We were told to stand by to observe and to relieve anyone doing CPR when they grew tired. We put on gloves, and proceeded to wait. A hush had come over the area and all of the nursing staff had arranged themselves in a line behind the nurses station, which was directly in front of the trauma room that was prepared for the patient. Out of nowhere, and I will never forget this site, the paramedics came busting ass around the corner, with a 3rd paramedic doing chest compressions as he ran alongside the stretcher. They wheeled him into the room, and with the swiftness of a surgeon, the nurse had cut away his clothes.
Audrey, the medical tech, was on a stool and doing chest compressions. Chambers, my fellow student got taken to operate the breathing mask and be the patients breathe. Audrey called out that she needed relief and I jumped over the defibrillator cable and took over for her.
I’d like to say that I was the calm, confident, bastard you know and love me for, but I dropped a turd the size of a hoagie. If you haven’t done chest compressions on human, you don’t know that it is not like the dummy. You have to push down FAST and HARD, about 1 1/2 inches and you think you’re going to push right through his chest. Not to mention, you feel the sternum hitting against the heart on every downward thrust, which come about 2 per second. Someone relieved me and then I went back and stood next to the paramedic students. I was called back in when relief was needed and after some coaching from the paramedic instructor, went to town. After what seemed like forever, i moved over to respiration and handled his breathing while the paramedic students switched off on compressions. The cardiac doctor called for defib, as everyone cleared and we waited for the shock to hit.
Nothing.
They called time of death at 1039.
I was overwhelmed with multiple emotions and asked to be excused. I went outside and called sarah as tears started to cloud my eyes.
I just did CPR, and witnessed an 87 year old man pass away. I was angry that there were bystanders just standing there when the paramedics came and noone had done CPR. I was excited that I got to be a part of something, and I was saddened that this widower has left this mortal plane.
When I came back in, we found out that they normally would have called off the resuscitation efforts 2 minutes before we stopped, but the doctors and nurses had agreed that they should let the other students be a part of it to give them experience and get their feet wet in something they will have to become very comfortable in.
My instructor said something, that was so solemn, and genuine that i will take it with me throughout my career.
“This was his final gift.”

Originally, I had 2 incorrect, but the answer that was correct had a typo that changed the meaning of it completely. Another student and myself were able to negotiate with the teacher, so he accepted the answer we provided, which was also correct.
1 down, many to go.

Batter Blaster is probably going to change the way pancake batter is sold.
This probably needs little explanation: just shake the can, point it to a hot griddle, and push on the nozzle.
The nutrition label says each can contains 8 servings, and it’s carries the USDA “Organic” stamp.
The Batter Blaster website comes with a video showing you how to use this. It also has instructions on how to cook pancakes.
