I have received a response from the school about my prior question; “Why is there no wifi access on campus”.

Here is the response:

Good evening Robert, I believe I sent a response to the original email about wireless access at the request of the president.  Here is where we are at with collegewide wireless -  There are many WIFI hotspots on each campus, and we are in the process of expanding these efforts college-wide. The college has set aside funds to deploy wireless at all campus locations despite the extremely difficult budget year we are experiencing.  A formal committee process is in place to complete an invitation to negotiate for vendors to respond to our wireless access needs.  I do not have the exact dates of when the proposals will be heard, but a vendor selection will take place prior to any contract negotiations or deployment.  I would be happy to send you regular updates if you are interested in where we are with the procurement process.  Would you like for me to call you tomorrow to discuss this in more detail?
Thank you , VP Barney.

To which I replied:
Patti,

Thank you for getting back to me. I appreciate that after countless inquiries and phone calls, I was able to receive an answer.

There is no need to call me today, however I would like updates as this is something that I am very much interested in following.

Also, I would like to offer my consultative services, free of course, to the college. I have had 12 years in the IT industry and have been involved with the deployment of wired/wireless access in many buildings, including the 300,000 sq ft Cummings Center in Beverly MA.

I understand there is a process to everything. Its just a shame there the school has not seen it wise to procure monies in the budget for the wifi access, but yet there are various other things getting budgeted for such as Monday Night Football in the Coffee Shop. I’m still curious as to why there is such budget issues when there are fees tacked on to every class I am taking, and I am still at a loss as to what the 9.60 cent fee is for in my invoices.

I’d also like to know how much the projected costs might be, or what you are budgeting for, as I will be more than happy to contribute to this fund, develop and hold fundraising events that will help this occur sooner rather than later.

Please, let me know
-Robert
